Strategic Plan Facilitation

We assist nonprofit leaders to uncover their team’s collective creativity and inherent organizational knowledge to develop a custom strategic plan to surpass their goals.

“Why do I need a strategic plan?”

There are a variety of reasons that you may need a strategic plan, but here are a few examples:

  • Structural changes

  • Economic changes

  • Policy changes

  • Affirm nonprofit direction

  • Create a common framework for decision making

  • Set context for business discussions

  • Some funding sources require a strategic plan

How Strategic Plan Facilitation Works

  • Photo of a calendar

    1. Book a Date

Complete the application form so we can determine if Strategic Plan facilitation is right for your nonprofit. Once approved, you’ll receive an invoice and we'll book a time for your facilitation that works with our calendars.

  • 2. Design Meeting

This meeting will happen 2 to 4 weeks before your scheduled strategic planning day with a small subset of the larger planning group. The purpose of this meeting is to determine the focus of your next strategic plan (revenue, organizational growth, outreach, marketing, etc).

  • 3. Strategic Plan Retreat

Each Strategic Plan retreat will include 6-hours of facilitation for a 1 year plan and 12-hours of facilitation for a 3 or more year plan focused on brainstorming, coaching, envisioning, prioritizing, and planning around your strategic goals.

  • 4. Written Plan & Follow-up

After your Strategic Plan retreat, you’ll receive your custom strategic plan within 3 business days. In addition, I will provide quarterly check in calls (up to 90 minutes) for the first year of your plan.

“Jenna helped us create our nonprofit’s very first strategic plan. The entire process was eye-opening and we should have done it sooner.”

Going into the meeting I didn’t think we would be able to discuss all of the goals for our organization during the annual board retreat, but Jenna kept us on track timewise so we were able to cover each topic. After the planning meeting, we reviewed the written strategic plan at our next board meeting. All of the board members were more tied to our goals for the upcoming year because they helped to create them and provided input for the plan.

Hello, I’m Jenna.

I am a proud Michigander who now resides in Southern California. I fell in love with strategic planning during my time on a local non-profit board. I attended my first strategic planning board retreat before I even joined the board and was instantly hooked. After that I was trained to become a strategic planning facilitator. I have been helping businesses and non-profits craft their strategic plans for almost a decade.

I have been involved in strategic plans from all aspects: facilitation, implementation, and evaluation. I know what it takes for a strategic plan to drive success for your nonprofit.

I am trained to lead participatory facilitation methods that catalyze action. I am a neutral moderator without any bias towards one faction, so I can lead focused discussion to advance your nonprofit strategy.

At the end of the Strategic Plan retreat, you’ll have…

  • This strategic plan facilitation will align the priorities of you and your team through communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. Throughout the day the group will collectively determine priorities, so everyone will understand the priorities and the steps needed to take them. In addition, you will have a written document detailing the priorities.

  • After spending the day collectively brainstorming ideas to help your organization improve, you and your team will leave with a common vocabulary and methodology for working together. This leads to more productive meetings and enhanced teamwork.

  • This strategic plan facilitation helps discover the individual insights of all the team members. All ideas are incorporated into the overall plan, but the commonalities among the ideas and the group discussion is what informs the path the organization will pursue.

  • The plan will summarize the strategic plan retreat progress and show the steps taken by the group to make the decisions they made. The plan outlines the agreed-upon priorities, the implementation steps needed to achieve the priorities, and who is responsible for each priority.
